SHAG, (a name which comes from
the last two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last
name: JOSH AGLE) is a product of the sprawling suburbs of Los Angeles.
Shag is intrigued with the slick commercial art and advertising of the late
50's and early 60's and he strives for a tight, clean and well crafted appearance
to his work. Though he considers himself more an illustrator than a "fine
artist," galleries in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Japan have hosted
solo exhibitions of his work. Shag's recent ventures in merchandise and
prints have been equally successful. Signed, limited edition products ranging
from handbags to tiki mugs have created some desperation for collectors of his
work, who are eager to get everything before the editions sell out, or suffer
the consequences of paying up to five times the original value on eBay.
